New Year Gathering of Master of Social Sciences (Contemporary China Studies)

17th January, 2015 was certainly a colourful day, and an enjoyable experience too, for students of the Master of Social Sciences (Contemporary China Studies) Programme. About 30 students of the progrmme, together with the Programme Office and Professor Tang Wing Shing, the Programme Director, enjoyed New Year Gathering outing on that day. The purpose of the outing was to introduce students to the city while fostering relationships among themselves. Unfairly belittled as a concrete jungle, Hong Kong in fact has an extremely high, and valuable, proportion of its area being preserved as green space. The outing, which was destined to Tai Mo Shan Country Park, was meant to familiarise students with this incredible experience. The group started the outing at 6:45 am so as to enjoy the awesome dim-sum breakfast at a teahouse in the countryside Chuen Lung Village. Filled with tasteful food and lingered with the fragrance of Po’er tea, they proceeded to walk along the Rotary Park Nature Trail to Rotary Park and visit Tai Mo Shan Country Park Visitor Centre, and finally climbed up Tai Mo Shan along Maclehose Trail section 8. Having reached an admirable viewing point, students were able to consume the panoramic view of Northwest New Territories, Kowloon and Hong Kong. We returned to Tsuen Wan MTR Station at 1:45 pm. In sum, there was a consensus among the students that it was a rewarding journey to start the year of 2015.
